The alternative energy sources utilized in the new facility will also be highlighted in the multipurpose space. Interactive displays will help demystify technologies such as such as photo-voltaic solar cells, evacuated tube solar hot water heating, Stirling engines and geothermal heating and cooling. Visitors will learn how these cutting edge technologies can be applied to their own homes. The large greenhouse to the north will house our ethnobotany collection. Ethnobotany explores man’s relationship with plants across history and across cultures. Visitors will be treated to fascinating stories as they progress through this lush collection. Take a walk across the hall and you will enter The Garden Gallery. Hundreds of colourful butterflies will be in flight in this glass house from spring to fall. During the cooler months the Gallery will be awash with seasonal blooms, a welcome respite from the cold winter season. New opportunities in botanical programming will be available in our new wet lab classroom. Hands on classes will enable the young and young at heart to get up close and personal with the plant world. |
