What's going on in the Dorothy Harvie Gardens?

As we settle in to our winter season, visitors will note big changes in the Dorothy Harvie Gardens. The renovation to our glasshouses has allowed us to revisit and renew our collections surrounding the ENMAX Conservatory. This winter the horticultural staff will be giving careful consideration to these collections and we look forward to completing our vision next spring.

Throughout this year some pathway closures have been necessary to ensure the safety of our visitors. We thank our visitors for their patience and will be reopening access as soon as possible.

While additional planting will have to await warmer temperatures in the spring, visitors will soon be able to get their first view of our new Courtyard on the south side of the ENMAX Conservatory. This sheltered location will allow us to push our zonal boundaries and experiment with some borderline hardy plant material. Beautiful stone seating walls and square-cut flagstone are some of the finishes that give this space an elegant and timeless feel.

A wander through the existing gardens will still provide plenty of inspiration for gardeners and outdoor enthusiasts. The winterscape provides an entirely different pallet for the gardener, where shape and texture takes on new importance. With careful attention to placement of structures and the seasonal form of plant material, a garden may be beautiful year round.
