Taking Action to Sustain Wildlife

Markhors have been known to climb trees in search of nutritious leaves. One was sighted on the branch of an oak tree about six metres (19 feet) above the ground, calmly munching on leaves.

Gates & Services

Summer Hours
(March 19, 2015 to October 13, 2015)

Gates open 9:00 a.m. - 5 p.m.
(The West Gate reopens on April 1, 2015.)

Concession and Retail open 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., including Kitamba Java and Penguin Café. Kitamba Café is open 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Our outdoor Concession locations are open dependant on weather and volume of attendance from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Buildings: Savannah, TransAlta Rainforest, and Eurasian Gateway, 9 a.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Exception Penguin Plunge: last entrance at 5:45 p.m., building closes at 6:00 p.m.
Zoo Grounds close at 6 p.m.


Safari Lodge

Never mind the massive banquet hall that can be quickly converted into smaller, more intimate spaces; the selling feature here is the veranda overlooking the giraffes, zebras and ostriches. It’s like you’re dining right in Africa.

Karsten Discovery Centre Auditorium

There’s more than just a big auditorium in this building, there’s a smaller theatre as well. So whatever your size of audience, you can present to them in comfort.

Tiger Training

Our Amur tigers receive daily training at 11:30 a.m. in the Tiger Amphitheatre. During this talk, the keeper wears a mic and instructs the tiger to practice a series of actions for reward.
