North Entrance Update
The first phase of the dynamic new North entrance to the Calgary Zoo is now open. After weathering a few unavoidable construction delays, the Guest Relations area in the tunnel opened for membership and program sales on Wednesday, March 19.
Until the north entry plaza is completed, ticket sales and access control will continue to function at the old gates. Wagon and wheelchair rentals will still be handled through the North Star gift shop.
We anticipate that before the long weekend in May a more direct route will replace the temporary bypass that currently guides visitors into the tunnel from the north parking lot. Please watch for signs positioned throughout the tunnel to assist you as we complete the next phase of the renovation.
When the north plaza is completed, our old gates will close and ticket sales will be available at the plaza ticket booths and in the new Guest Relations area in the tunnel. As the project nears completion, automated ticket machines will also be added in several locations in the plaza entrance and tunnel to provide another option for our guests to purchase tickets and avoid line-ups on busy days.
The main entrance from the plaza is currently scheduled to be completed prior to the May long weekend. Landscaping and other finishing touches to the plaza are expected to be finalized before the end of June. Throughout this time, watch for many exciting new features to be added that will make your arrival at the Calgary Zoo a new, improved and exciting experience.
