Hot Chocolate? Check! Santa Claus? Check! Ice skating? Check!
ZOOLIGHTS presented by Olympia Trust Company has every tradition you need for a festive holiday season, all in one place! In fact, there are so many things to do, it can be hard to know where to begin. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Here is are you Top 7 Tips for the best ZOOLIGHTS ever:
TIP #1: Don’t Skip the Cold Nights
We all know it can get chilly this time of year but that’s no reason to skip out on ZOOLIGHTS. With fire pits and hot chocolate to keep you warm, in addition to indoor activities, not only are cold winter nights just as fun, they often-times come with less crowds, making it even more magical.
TIP #2: Put Your Brawn and Your Brains to the Test
Back by popular demand is our Mobile Escape Room! Put your problem-solving skills to the ultimate test every Saturday night with these 5-10 minute escape rooms. For those who prefer brawn over brains, don’t miss axe throwing on Thursday nights. New to ZOOLIGHTS this year, Rival Mobile Axe Throwing will host four lanes for axe throwing where visitors receive five throws each.
TIP #3: Whistle While You Work… on Conservation
New to ZOOLIGHTS this year is a Disney classic with a conservation twist: Snow White and the Seven Stewards of the forest. Every Friday, Snow White or the Evil Queen will be making live appearances at the ENMAX Conservatory and, beginning December 6, you will have the chance to speak to the magic mirror and have its prediction for you every Thursday.
TIP #4: Rejoice in Gingerbread
Our handmade gingerbread house is a sight to be seen. It took our zoo chefs four weeks to bring this masterpiece to life and it’s a ZOOLIGHTS experience you don’t want to miss. Stop by the ENMAX Conservatory to see the first gingerbread house castle the zoo has ever built. While you can’t eat the house itself, we’ll have gingerbread cookies for you to enjoy, while quantities last, every Friday night.
TIP #5: Make Sure You’re on the Good List
It just wouldn’t be Christmas without Santa. Before you leave ENMAX Conservatory, take a picture with the big guy himself and let him know what you want for Christmas.
TIP #6: There’s Lots You Can Learn from Bison
It’s been a big year for bison. After orchestrating the re-introduction of bison to Banff earlier this summer, Parks Canada is celebrating at ZOOLIGTHS with a one-of-a-kind interactive bison light display! In order to make the best of your trip to ZOOLIGHTS, you have to check out this voice-activated display that is as educational as it is beautiful.
TIP #7: Don’t Forget the Special Guests
With mini cupcake decorating with Crave (Nov. 29 and Dec. 6), ballet performances by Sugar Plum Fairies (Dec. 20-22) and LaPointe Dancer Studio (Dec. 29), and Christmas carolling by the Harmless Harmonies choir (Dec. 14) – to name a few – there are endless special guests making appearances at ZOOLIGHTS. Make sure to see who the special guests are during your visit!
Whew! And there you have it! Did we miss anything? Truth be told, we probably did. There are just so many special experiences to be had at ZOOLIGHTS, it’s hard to fit them all into one evening let alone one post. The good news is that ZOOLIGHTS is seven weeks long! You can come back again and again to take in more attractions, like the Tunnel of Love, Sugar Shack, giant puzzles and face painting – did we forget to mention those? – and experience the magic of ZOOLIGHTS all season long. See you there!
