Better than a bun in the oven!
It’s the August long weekend, and you’re looking for something fun to do with the family. Or maybe you’re looking to have a great day out with friends. Whatever you have in mind, the zoo has something for you to make that summer day extra memorable! Here are some suggestions to help you plan your visit.
Hello again, it’s Sam coming to you from the Calgary Zoo’s Prehistoric Park!
I just went to the movie theaters to see a movie that I’ve been excited about since like grade one: Jurassic World! It was so awesome! I think that if there’s a Jurassic World that I’d like to work there. I looked at my books and the velociraptor looks WAY different than the ones in the movie. Real velociraptors were only about as tall as a big dog, and as long as my dad is when he’s laying on the couch watching football. I wonder why they got so big in the movie?
As a child, zookeeper Shannon Collard was raised on the exotic adventures of Diane Fossey, Jane Goodall and Biruté Galdikas.
“It’s one thing to have heroes as a little girl, but it’s quite another to be lucky enough to grow that interest into a full-time job working with primates,” says the native Calgarian, who works with the Calgary Zoo’s eastern black and white colobus monkeys and western lowland gorillas.
For the past few weeks we’ve been using the hashtag #20zootodo to count down the days until the Calgary Zoo fully reopened. Once a day, for 20 days, we’ve shared suggestions for what you can do when you get back on the island.
With the zoo officially opened, as of November 28, 2013, we’re turning the list over to you!
Print it out (you can download it here) and use it as a guide to take pictures during your next visit to the zoo. Share your pics on Instagram and Twitter using the #20zootodo hashtag. Then follow the hashtag to get in on the fun!
