The Calgary Zoo’s highly anticipated Penguin Walk is back for another year of waddling wonder! Starting Wednesday, January 17, 2018, the birds will walk every day at 11 a.m.
It’s National Zoo Keeper Week and we’re sharing the love! To recognize the dedication and hard work of our amazing zookeepers, we are posting an interview of a keeper each day this week. You should flock to watch this one- today’s the sixth individual, and it’s penguin keeper Amy Bowden! From working at her local zoo in the UK to starting at the Calgary Zoo in 2016, Amy is a welcome addition to our fantastic Animal Care team.

Spring has sprung in Calgary- and so has Spring Break! The first day of this lovely season was March 21, which means it’s that time of year where #yyc weather will begin to warm, and students are looking for some fun during their time off.
If you’re searching for a unique outing and want to try out some engaging attractions during this time with your kids, look no further than the Calgary Zoo.
We’ve got the fun (and the variety) to keep your family entertained this spring break.
We’re so excited- there’s a new king penguin in the family!
On June 16, 2016, king penguin Grace laid an egg. After last year’s success with hatching the zoo’s first ever king penguin chick, Nero, a new egg caused quite the stir. Our zookeepers watched and waited with anticipation as Grace guarded her egg, until her chick emerge on August 6.

As the Family Day long weekend approaches and parents are looking for quality time with their children, a trip to the Calgary Zoo can be just the right idea! If Valentine celebrations are your thing, remember that courtship, mating and reproduction are at the heart of the zoo’s conservation efforts here at home and around the world. With love on the brain, these amorous aspects will be shared during a Valentine’s weekend of enrichment for the zoo’s animals.
Have you heard of Giving Tuesday, the response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday in North America? Now we’ve joined in on the fun!
