Catch the last wave of the summer season at the zoo

Not all good things must come to an end, but our seasonal summer features are going out with the nice weather and long days. Check out this list of seven smile makers and see how many you can fit in…

  1. Tour the animal kingdom while you eat local.

Experience Grazers, our seasonal restaurant that closes September 4, 2017. This scrumptious dining experience features locally sourced ingredients and helps us reduce our environmental footprint without sacrificing taste. *Grazers closes early at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017, for a private event, and resumes normal hours the next day.

  1. Take a walk with the lemurs, literally.

We like to keep our animals and humans a safe distance apart, but in the adventure loop of the lemur habitat you get the chance to be with the lemurs without any barriers in between. That means just you and the lemurs, together at last. You’d best come for a visit soon since the temperature is already beginning to dip and we can’t promise these tropical animals will be outdoor in the adventure loop for much longer.

Look up! Lemurs will travel on the ground, through the trees, and on structures in the air inside of the Adventure Loop.

  1. Skip the lemur line for the last time.

Being a lemur habitat VIP is always fun, and there’s a chance to walk alone with the lemurs one final time. This is the last weekend in 2017 to get Early Lemur Access, which is your private tour of the lemur habitat ahead of the crowds.

  1. You’ll scream if you miss it.

Come enjoy a screamer, Calgary’s best soft serve ice cream and slushy combo. It’s a seasonal treat, which means you won’t be able to experience this brain freeze inducing treat much longer. Get a screamer while you still can!

  1. Butterflies aren’t really a winter thing.

Chrysalis have been shipped from Costa Rica and Southeast Asia this season. The significance of bringing these insects from so far across the world isn’t just to have our guests enjoy them, but to support international butterfly farming. Be sure to visit the butterfly garden before the end of the season because our population of beautiful insects is reduced to prepare from the coming cooler weather.

  1. Snap those summertime selfies.

Before the leaves fall off the trees and those snowflakes start threatening to fall, you’ll want to take advantage of the great photo opportunities near your favourite animal habitats, the gardens and our giant red chair, which is conveniently located outside the ENMAX Conservatory. Before we all have to bundle up for fall to explore the acres of incredible exhibits, make those precious family photo snaps and post them to social so we can scroll back and think warm thoughts.

  1. Sleeping all winter long is a real thing.

It’s tough work being a grand, strong, grizzly bear, and gaining weight for winter takes some serious preparation. Come take in our grizzly bear training before the bears head into their den to sleep for the colder seasons.

We’re open all year long, but now’s the perfect time to catch these summertime gems before they’re gone for the 2017 year.

Bonus: Free daily programs

Our daily animal talks cover more than grizzly bear training- find the full list here and enjoy Training, Animal Feedings and learn about Gorilla Family Dynamics.
