Guide to Summer Programs at the Zoo

There are so many things to see and do at the zoo but one thing you can’t miss is our daily programs! The Calgary Zoo has a diverse set of free daily programs where visitors can learn all about our incredible animals, how we care for them, and how we can save them in the wild! These programs offer guests insider info on animals like our tigers, hippos and lions, right from the experts themselves!

Our new daily programs schedule has arrived just in time for summer and is jam-packed with more activities ever before. With so many options, we’re outlining each one so you can make the most of your next visit to the zoo:

Zoo Snacks and Zoo Hacks | 10 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM daily

We’re expanding our spotlight on animal enrichment for the summer season! During Zoo Snacks, visitors can watch an interpreter-narrated special enrichment feed. At Zoo Hacks, interpreters will show are visitors how the zoo uses science to “hack” nature and design a habitat and lifestyle that is perfectly, naturally suited to each species.

Penguin Keeper Chat | 10:30 AM daily

Get penguin care and conservation straight from the source! Our penguin keepers offer a glimpse into the challenges and joys of caring for a mixed species flock of penguins.

Tiger Training | 11:30 AM daily

Ever wonder how we provide the best care possible to our big cats? Stop by our daily Tiger Training and find out! This enrichment program is not only great for stimulating the tigers’ minds and bodies, it also makes health checks easier!

Gorillas on the Line | 12 PM daily

Answer the call of the wild with an in-depth look at gorilla communication and troop dynamics. Learn about conservation efforts for these critically endangered great apes, including action being taken by the zoo and you!

Grizzly Bear Training | 1:30 PM daily

Sit in on a session between keeper and bear and watch how simple asks and behaviours (with a treat incentive) engage our grizzlies and build a bond of trust. An interpreter will explain the science behind the trailing and be available to answer all of your questions!

Savannah Social | 2 PM daily

The great grasslands are famous for the many variations of social behavior. Join an interpreter to explore this fascinating aspect of animal behaviour through a variety of programs, from interactive theatre to safari-style exploration of the animals in the yard.

Whether you pick one or visit them all, you’ll never be short of things to do or learn when you’re at the zoo this summer!
