Locked Zoo is Back with a brand-new game!

 

Locked Zoo: Amazing Apes (Adults Only 18+)

An all-NEW game all about apes will have you helping to protect endangered apes. Locked Zoo: Amazing Apes is a 2-hour, zoo-wide escape game that challenges you to explore the zoo after hours, solve an elaborate series of puzzles, and learn about wildlife conservation.

This outdoor escape game will have you using your wits and getting your steps in, while solving challenging puzzles with a team of clever friends. Your team will explore select areas of the zoo to find the clues, solve the puzzles, and save the day! There's plenty of animals to see along the way, beverages (including adult ones!) will be available for purchase, and you can pre-order a delicious dinner box. The challenge will not be timed. Proceed at your leisure! You’ll be able to enjoy the zoo until 9 p.m.

Here's what to expect for this massive escape experience:

WHEN: Friday, May 27th, 2022

WHERE: Calgary Zoo 

TIME(S): First timed ticket entry is 4:30 p.m. - 5 p.m.; Last time ticket entry is 6 p.m. -6:30 p.m.; Game runs until 9 p.m. Entries will be staggered in 30 min intervals for a better customer experience. 

WHAT: Book tickets for your team and pre-order delicious dinner boxes! Solve the challenge. Enjoy the zoo. Adult beverages will be available for purchase from 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the North Bar, Kitamba Java, and Camel Canteen. Limited dinner boxes, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be available for purchase onsite from Kitamba Café. Outside of a pre-purchased dinner box, limited food and beverages are available for purchase.

TICKET PRICE: $45+GST, enjoy a dinner box for an additional $16.95 + GST.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is an 'adult only' (18+) experience. Guests arriving for Locked Zoo: Amazing Apes accompanied by children/infants will not be admitted. No refunds will be provided.
  • This game is intended to be enjoyed after hours. As such, our animals may not be available for viewing during this experience as they may be settling down for their evening sleep.
  • The zoo remains open to the public until 6:00 p.m. (last day admission timed ticket entry is at 5:00 p.m.) as per normal operating hours.  
  • As this experience takes place after hours, our indoor animal habitats and buildings will be closed as per normal operations.    
  • We encourage you to dress as a team (coordinate outfits, t-shirts or accessories) and have fun! A friendly reminder that full body costumes, full face masks, and blow up costumes are not permitted to be worn on zoo grounds.

  • Team booking information

    • Your booking must include your Team Name – this is essential for the Locked Zoo packages you’ll receive on arrival.

    • All team members must arrive at the same time to start the game – be sure that you register for the same time slot and pick up your Locked Zoo package together on arrival at the zoo.

  • What should I bring?

    • Cell Phone Required – this event REQUIRES a cell phone with data to participate. You will need one per team, fully charged. You will be watching videos and completing tasks through your phone. Phone charging stations are not available. 

    • Dress for the Weather (rain, cold, or shine)! This event takes place outdoors.

    • Wear Comfy Footwear! The zoo is a big place and you will be walking a large part of it for this event.

    • Positive Gaming Attitude – this is a fun, entertaining evening intended to help you have fun learning about wildlife conservation, while enjoying the animals and the outdoors at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. Challenges will test your problem-solving skills, and volunteers across the zoo will help guide you (if needed!).

  • What else do I need to know?

    • Alcoholic beverages can be purchased from 3 bar locations - North Bar (by the entrance to the Canadian Wilds), Kitamba Java, and the Camel Canteen (Asian lawn area). Last call is at 8:30 p.m. Limited food & beverage options will be available in Kitamba Café so be sure to pre-order a dinner box if you want one

    • There will be several versions of the Locked Zoo experience taking place at the same time. So don’t worry if you see clues and activities that you didn’t do – they won’t all apply to your team’s challenge!

    • This event is entirely accessible. If you need to rent a wheelchair or powerchair, please visit our North Gift Shop upon arrival and before 5:00 p.m. If you plan to arrive after 5:00 p.m., please contact us 24 hours in advance at (403) 232-9300 ext.115.

    • The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo closes at 5:00 p.m. and all members of the general public are expected to vacate the zoo grounds by 6:00 p.m. This special event ticket allows you to stay on grounds until 9:00 p.m. You will need to keep it with you at all times, either on your phone or as a printout.

    • We kindly ask that you do not bring outside food and beverages to this event. Your support of our food services is greatly appreciated and helps us make these events financially stable.

  • What do I do upon arrival?

    • Park and enter the zoo through our North parking lot and entrance.

    • Arrive and enter during your timed ticket entry time ONLY, with your entire team present.

    • You'll receive your Locked Zoo experience package as a team on your arrival in Penguin plaza. This will include your complete experience instructions, and Locked Zoo map including:

      • Where to pick up your pre-purchased lunch boxes

      • Dining locations

      • Washrooms locations

    • The Locked Zoo experience should take a maximum of 2 hours to complete, allowing ample time to sit down, enjoy dinner, and the outdoor zoo grounds.
