Locked Zoo is back with a BRAND-new game!

 

Locked Zoo: Cryptic Cats (Adults Only 18+)

This BRAND-NEW escape game will have you using your wits and getting your steps in, while solving challenging puzzles with a team of clever friends. Your team will explore select areas of the zoo to find the clues, solve the puzzles, and save the day! There's plenty of animals to see along the way, beverages (including adult ones!) will be available for purchase and you can pre-order a delicious dinner box. The challenge will not be timed. Proceed at your leisure! You’ll be able to enjoy the zoo until 9:00 p.m.

Here's what to expect for this massive escape experience:

WHEN: Wednesday, July 7, 2021

WHERE: Calgary Zoo 

TIME(S): First timed ticket entry is 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Last time ticket entry is 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.; Game runs until 9:00 p.m. Entries will be staggered in 30 min intervals to ensure safe physical distancing throughout your experience. 

WHAT: Book tickets for your household team – and pre-order delicious dinner boxes! Solve the challenge. Enjoy the zoo. Adult beverages will be available for purchase from 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the North Bar, Kitamba Java, and the West Lawn Tent. Limited dinner boxes, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks will be available for purchase onsite from Kitamba Café. Debit or credit are the preferred methods of payment at this time, however cash is accepted. Due to AHS guidelines, there is limited capacity indoor dining available in Kitamba Café but we have many outdoor picnic tables available around the zoo. We apologize for any inconvenience.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • This is an 'adult only' (18+) experience. Guests arriving for Locked Zoo: Cryptic Cats accompanied by children/infants will not be admitted. No refunds will be provided.
  • This game is intended to be enjoyed after hours. As such, our animals may not be available for viewing during this experience as they may be settling down for their evening sleep.
  • The zoo remains open to the public until 5:00 p.m. (last day admission timed ticket entry is at 4:00 p.m.) as per normal operating hours.  
  • As this experience takes place after hours, our indoor animal habitats and buildings will be closed as per normal operations.    
  • We encourage you to dress as a team (coordinate outfits, t-shirts or accessories) and have fun! A friendly reminder that full body costumes, full face masks, and blow up costumes are not permitted to be worn on zoo grounds.

FAQs

  • Team booking information
    • Household Groups: Due to AHS guidelines, you may only be on teams and dine with your household group. Because of this – we will be restricting table seating to groups of two people (three people for singles). We will give out extra game sheets for registered teams of more than 2-3 people so that you can play safely and independently. We truly appreciate your support so that we can continue to run these experiences during these challenging times.

    • Your booking must include your Team Name – this is essential for the Locked Zoo packages you’ll receive on arrival.

    • All team members must arrive at the same time to start the game – be sure that you register for the same time slot and pick up your Locked Zoo package together on arrival at the zoo.

  • What should I bring?
    • Cell Phone Required – this event REQUIRES a cell phone with data to participate. You will need one per team, fully charged. You will be watching videos and completing tasks through your phone. Phone charging stations are not available

    • Mask - Face coverings are recommended for ages 2+ and are required inside Calgary Zoo buildings from August 1, in accordance with City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020. While the Locked Zoo experience takes place outdoors, please note that you will be required to wear a mask to enter the Kitamba Café, retail shops, indoor washrooms and Lost & Found services. 

    • Dress for the Weather (rain, cold, or shine)! This event takes place outdoors.

    • Wear Comfy Footwear! The zoo is a big place and you will be walking a large part of it for this event.

    • Positive Gaming Attitude – this is a fun, entertaining evening intended to help you have fun learning about wildlife conservation, while enjoying the animals and the outdoors at the Calgary Zoo. Challenges will test your problem-solving skills, and volunteers across the zoo will help guide you (if needed!).

  • What else do I need to know?
    • The Calgary Zoo is a safety-minded, world wildlife experience. Be sure to follow the important Health & Safety information below and all on park signage! We ask all Locked Zoo participants to practice safe physical distancing and to only congregate with your team. And remember, going your own way could be detrimental to your game!

    • Masks are encouraged, but not mandatory, in outdoor spaces. Zoo staff and volunteers will be wearing masks at all times.

    • Alcoholic beverages can be purchased from 3 bar locations - North Bar (by the entrance to the Canadian Wilds), Kitamba Java, and the West Lawn Tent. Last call is at 8:30 p.m. Limited food & beverage options will be available in Kitamba Café so be sure to pre-order a dinner box if you want one. Outdoor picnic seating is available throughout the zoo grounds. Please note that Kitamba Café offers limited capacity indoor seating. Debit or credit are the preferred method of payment at this time, however cash is accepted. 

    • There will be several versions of the Locked Zoo experience taking place at the same time. So don’t worry if you see clues and activities that you didn’t do – they won’t all apply to your team’s challenge!

    • This event is entirely accessible. If you need to rent a wheelchair or powerchair, please visit our North Gift Shop upon arrival and before 5:00 p.m. If you plan to arrive after 5:00 p.m., please contact us 24 hours in advance at (403) 232-9300 ext.115.

    • The Calgary Zoo closes at 5:00 p.m. and all members of the general public are expected to vacate the zoo grounds by 6:00 p.m. This special event ticket allows you to stay on grounds until 9:00 p.m. You will need to keep it with you at all times, either on your phone or as a printout.

    • We kindly ask that you do not bring outside food and beverages to this event. Your support of our food services is greatly appreciated and helps us make these events financially stable.

  • What do I do upon arrival?
    • Park and enter the zoo through our North parking lot and entrance.

    • Arrive and enter during your timed ticket entry time ONLY, with your entire team present.

    • You'll receive your Locked Zoo experience package as a team on your arrival in Penguin plaza. This will include your complete experience instructions, and Locked Zoo map including:

      • Where to pick up your pre-purchased lunch boxes

      • Dining locations

      • Washrooms locations

    • The Locked Zoo experience should take a maximum of 2 hours to complete, allowing ample time to sit down, enjoy dinner, and the outdoor zoo grounds.

  • Important health & safety information

    You are not to enter the Calgary Zoo if:

    • You are ill or experiencing symptoms of COVID -19. These include:

      • Fever

      • Cough

      • Shortness of breath

      • Runny nose

      • Sore throat

      • And/or others listed on Alberta Health Services website

    • You have been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with or has symptoms of COVID-19.

    • You or someone in your household has traveled internationally in the past 14 days.

    You will be asked to follow all Alberta Health Services Guidelines on Calgary Zoo grounds:

    • Practice physical distancing: keep 3 meters between your household and others.

    • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds.

    • Face coverings are recommended for ages 2+ and are required inside Calgary Zoo buildings from August 1, in accordance with City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020. Be sure to bring yours with you when you visit and put them on and remove them safely. Expect to require one to enter: Kitamba Café, retail shops, indoor washrooms and Lost & Found services. A limited supply will be available at our North Gift Shop while quantities last!
