Come and be a ‘conservation researcher’ with our new burrowing owl program. The Canadian population of this unique grassland species has declined by 90% since the 1990s. The owl is listed as Endangered due to a number of threats that result in high juvenile mortality and low migration return rates. Through a variety of hands-on activities, we will learn about the head-starting project that the Calgary Zoo has devised to recover burrowing owls. Let your students become “researchers-in-training" to learn some of the conservation techniques that the zoo uses to save species like this from extinction.
