Calgary, AB – Celebrate the season of love with the animals at the Calgary Zoo. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2018, the animals in the zoo’s Eurasia section will be surprised with red, white and heart-shaped enrichment items.

“Enrichment is a daily part of the care we provide to our animals,” says Matt Korhonen, Curator, Calgary Zoo. “But on a special day, like Valentine’s, we get a bit more creative with the items that we give the animals to pique their interest and offer variety and stimulation.”

The snow leopards, Japanese macaques, red pandas will all be the special recipients of the Valentine’s treats. Enrichment encourages natural behaviours based on each animals’ specific welfare needs and can be a variety of items such as food, scents or changing the way the habitat is laid out.
