Calgary Zoo Invites the World to Celebrate the Panda Cubs' Birthday

Posted on October 12

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Zoo is throwing a birthday bash for the panda cubs and is inviting the world to watch as it launches its PandaCam. Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue turn 3 years old on Saturday, October 13 and to mark the occasion, the zoo is officially turning on its PandaCam presented by Hainan Airlines.

“Wht better way to celebrate this momentous occasion, than by welcoming panda fans from around the globe to see Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue receive some birthday enrichment,’ says Matt Korhonen, Curator, Calgary Zoo. “Enrichment is a daily part of the pandas’ lives and we have created some unique items just for the cubs’ special day. Visitors to our PandaCam will not only see the bears interact with these objects, but also get to witness the world-class care we provide to the pandas.”

In addition to the PandaCam, the zoo has planned a weekend full of events to celebrate the cubs’ birthday. Two specially themed parties will be held simultaneously to honour each of the cubs, a butterfly garden party for Jia Yueyue and a dinosaur party for Jia Panpan. Festivities will run Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. across from Panda Passage and will feature games, activities and Chinese birthday traditions.

The PandaCam can be accessed through the zoo’s website at beginning on Saturday, October 13. It will be operational, 7 days week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
