On June 16, 2016 our king penguin, Grace, laid an egg and the male chick successfully hatched at the beginning of August. This fluffy wonder has been regularly joining the flock on the Penguin Walk and today we announced that he has a name! Our Animal Care team came up with a few name suggestions in the tradition of using "royal" names for our king penguins.
The final name selected is Edward, chosen by our volunteers, who are a team vital in assisting with our many zoo programs. Edward is named after Edward VII, a past king in the United Kingdom, who ruled from 1901 to 1910. King Edward Point was named after him, which is the capital of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and also the location for the largest colony of king penguins in the world!
