School communities throughout Alberta, Canada and the world are improving their surroundings by bringing a piece of nature onto their school grounds. The Calgary Zoo has been a leader in schoolyard naturalization since 1998. The Grounds for Change program is designed to connect you to years of experience working with Calgary-area schools throughout the naturalization process. We translate knowledge into effective project support, helping you avoid common pitfalls, and maximize the learning opportunities that arise from naturalization planning. We offer insight into successful methods for planning and stewardship of the completed landscape. Using the naturalized area to complement classroom teaching is also an area of focus. Regardless of where you are in the naturalizing process, or how old your existing project is, our program can provide relevant resources and service.
