Our Teams

Animal Care, Health & Welfare

Our Animal Care, Health, and Welfare teams are home to passionate and dedicated professionals with a wealth of animal care knowledge and experience. Focusing on best practices in animal husbandry, health care and management, they provide world-class care to all the animals in our care and take pride in exceeding accreditation standards.

Positions can include Animal Care Technicians, Veterinarians, Animal Nutritionist, and Zoological Records Specialist.

 

Guest Services

Comprised of the Guest Relations, Retail, Concessions, Catering Front of House, Catering Back of House, Sales, and Special Experiences teams, this is a group of professionals and customer-service driven individuals who provide seamless service to visitors of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo.

Positions can include Customer Service Representatives, Cooks, Servers & Bartenders, Special Experience Assistant, Sales Representatives, and more.

 

Facility Management

Facility Management is made up of Facility Services, Facility Maintenance, Facility Operations, and Horticulture departments. They are hard-working and dedicated professionals who are responsible for our world-class facilities leading to an exceptional guest experience and allowing for the highest standards of animal welfare in the industry.

Positions can include Architects, Engineers, Project Managers, Maintenance Managers, Horticulturists, Planners, Administrators, Landscapers, Trades, and Security Guards.

 

Learning & Engagement

Our Visitor Engagement and Conservation Education teams make learning fun and engaging for visitors of all ages. Whether leading a class on a field trip to learn about the animals in our care, engaging through song and dance, or storytelling at Wilder Moments, this team makes every visit to the zoo memorable with their presence.

Positions can include Conservation Education Interpreters, School Programs Coordinator, Summer Camp Leader, Wildlife Visitor Experience Hosts, and Performer, Theatrical Visitor Engagement.

 

Brand & Public Relations

Made up of the Marketing and Communications departments, those working in Brand & Public Relations are creative communicators and strategic thinkers who amplify conservation messages with visitors, members, employees, and the public at large. These teams help to keep our brand alive in the community at home and abroad, sharing the actions we take to save wildlife.

Positions can include Marketing Advisor, Communications Specialist, Interpretive Planner and more.

 

Development

Made up of the Philanthropy and Partnerships and Advancement Services Departments, these relationship builders are responsible for seeking, negotiating, accepting, and processing donations, sponsorships, grants, and government funding.

Positions can include Senior Development and Development Officers for focuses such as Annual Giving, Major Giving, Sponsorship, External Relations.

 

People & Culture

Bringing together the Human Resources, Compensation & Benefits, and Volunteer Relations departments, this team of talented professionals is dedicated to the people, programs and functions that create a workplace where our people thrive, grow, contribute, and feel safe and valued.

Positions can include Human Resources Advisor, Payroll and Benefits Specialist, and Volunteer Relations Coordinator.

 

IT

This team is focused on advancing the zoo’s capabilities with effective technologies, infrastructure, and services to make work and communication possible for those onsite and remote. Through the use of proven, reliable, and security technology, the team ensures that the systems and services needed are ready to go every day of the year.

Positions can include Desktop Support, Systems Analyst, Infrastructure Analyst.

 

Finance

Comprised of the Finance and Procurement departments, these individuals work together to provide financial insights to support decision making across the zoo, while working to ensure the responsible use of zoo funds through professional accounting practices.

Positions can include Accountants, Procurement Specialists, Cash Room Clerks, and Warehouse Assistants.

 

Conservation & Science

Made up of talented and experienced professionals who use collaboration, scientific research, and traditional knowledge to deliver action focused on saving species in Canada and around the world. They work together with our partners to develop conservation strategies that will benefit species-at-risk, using an inclusive conservation approach to address the needs of wildlife and the communities that share these ecosystems in Canada and globally.

Positions can include Field Technicians, Conservation Program Managers and Conservation Program Associates.

 

Volunteers

Volunteers are valued partners of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. Support provided by our dedicated community of volunteers spans across many areas of the zoo, helping bring our vision to life.  Volunteers play an integral role in engaging with and educating visitors, are the heart of many special events hosted at the zoo and assist operational teams in carrying out daily support tasks.
