Canadian Wilds Construction Update: North Path Closure

To create some exciting new habitats and spaces in the Canadian Wilds, we are undergoing an extensive construction project which will temporarily shift pathways and move some animals offsite. With the next phase of the redevelopment on the horizon, the North Path of the Canadian Wilds will be closed as of April 12, 2023. This means that bighorn sheep and Rocky Mountain goats will not be viewable again until later this fall.

The good news is that you’ll still be able to see several iconic Canadian species when you visit the Canadian Wilds South Path. On this path, you will see cougars, black bears, grizzly bears, North American porcupine, moose, and gray wolves. We’re working hard to minimize impacts while providing the best possible experience for our visitors and the animals we love and care for. Thank you for your understanding. Learn more.

Gorillas on the Line

Gorillas are on the line - will you help us answer the call? Some cell phone parts use coltanan ore mined in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Gorilla habitat is threatened by the mining for metals used in electronics. Recycling old cell phones (and small handheld electronics) raises money to directly support gorilla conservation initiatives through Gorilla SAFE programs!

We need your help! This year, the Calgary Zoo is working together with Canadian Wildlife Service, Parks Canada and the International Crane Foundation to determine whether we can use high-resolution satellite imagery to monitor whooping cranes. A Global Authority for Animal Stewardship and Conservation

If you’ve spent any time at the Calgary Zoo, you know that we are more than just a place to see animals. Like accredited zoos and aquariums world-wide, we are a force for animal welfare, wildlife conservation, and using science to sustain threatened wildlife in Canada and around the world. Incredible successes can be achieved when people are inspired to support wildlife conservation.

Together, with your support, we can make the world a wilder place.
