Welcoming a Baa-ndle of Joy

PETRONAS Gateway to Asia Malayan Tapir Viewing: ‘Sempurna’ and her calf have daily access to the main indoor habitat from 10:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. They’ll also have access to their behind-the-scenes space and may choose to spend time there, especially when the calf is nursing, so viewing isn’t always guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.
Bite-Sized
Are you ready for a gorilla troop update?
We have exciting news! After months of gradual introductions, our western lowland gorilla troop is now together full-time with adult female ‘Johari’. Thanks to the guidance and expertise of our dedicated Animal Care, Health & Welfare team, we’re celebrating this important milestone and the successful integration of our newest troop member.
While the troop is now together 24/7, the gorillas are still in a transition phase. During this time, they continue to settle in and learn about one another, while gradually doing more as a group. The troop heads outside together (weather permitting) and their dedicated care givers have begun reintroducing morning and afternoon shifts to their back-of-house space to support habitat habitat cleaning, training activities, and enrichment. We’re taking things day by day, but the progress has been encouraging. We’re already seeing the group move and behave as a cohesive troop.
