You and your family's safety is important to us! The Calgary Zoo remains committed to offering a safe place for households to visit. Our staff and volunteers are located around park to helpfully remind visitors to maintain distance from other families and wear masks indoors.

  • Our indoor animal habitats and buildings are now open, including Penguin Plunge, Savannah, Rainforest, and ENMAX Conservatory (Cequel Energy Lodge and Panda Passage will remain closed due to ongoing construction). We look forward to welcoming you back inside these special spaces!
  • The Calgary Zoo remains a one-way safety-minded Zooventure experience. Be sure to follow the directional arrows located throughout the park to guide your way.
  • Mask wear is mandatory for everyone 2 years and older in all Calgary Zoo buildings, in accordance with City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020. Be sure to bring yours with you when you visit!
  • Physical distancing is EVERYONE’S responsibility. As part of our commitment to visitor, employee and animal safety, our staff will be actively monitoring to ensure physical distancing is being maintained. If you don’t keep your distance from other household groups, our staff will ask you to leave the zoo and no refunds will be provided.

What can I expect from my Zooventure Experience?

Enjoy a world wildlife experience you'll never forget! This safety-minded experience is sure to delight, bring wonder and connect you to nature in fun, playful and educative ways. Online timed entry tickets are required in advance! Tickets are not sold onsite. Choose your route as you follow one-directional arrows that take you through the zoo on a self-guided tour, with lots of animals to see along the way. Face coverings are recommended for ages 2+ everywhere and are required to be worn inside all Calgary Zoo buildings in accordance with City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020. Be sure to put them on and remove them safely!

Travel to the polar waters of Penguin Plunge. Hike up through the Rockies to find big horn sheep, caribou, grizzlies, cougars, moose and many more animals who call Canada home. Safari through the Savannah to see a tower of giraffes, prickle of African crested porcupines, and a conspiracy of lemurs. Wade through the Rainforest to find West African dwarf crocodiles, Eastern black-and-white colobus monkeys and Western lowland gorillas. Meander through the tranquility and serenity of the ornamental Dorothy Harvie Gardens then flutter along with the butterflies inside the ENMAX Conservatory. Venture East to see the playful antics of the Japanese macaques and red pandas. Be sure not to miss the majestic Amur tigers and snow leopards while you're there!

You are not to enter the Calgary Zoo if:

  • You're ill or experiencing symptoms of COVID -19. These include: fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, and/or others listed on Alberta Health Services website.

  • You've been exposed to someone who has been diagnosed with or has symptoms of COVID-19.

  • You or someone in your household has traveled internationally in the past 14 days.

You will be asked to follow all Alberta Health Services Guidelines on Calgary Zoo grounds:

  • Practice physical distancing: keep 3 meters between your household and others

  • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds

  • Mask wear is mandatory for everyone 2 years and older indoors, in accordance with City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020. Be sure to bring yours with you when you visit, and put them on and remove them safely. Expect to require one to enter: Penguin Plunge, Rainforest Building, African Savannah Building, ENMAX Conservatory, Kitamba Café, retail shop locations, indoor washrooms and Lost & Found services. 

Experiences & Amenities on Park

Your health and safety is important to us! Here's what visitors can expect from our one-way Zooventure safety-minded experience:

  • You’ll have an exclusive feeling as you visit, with reduced visitor capacity and timed ticket entry in place. Access to the zoo will only be available through the North Entrance. The West Entrance is closed.

  • Choose your route as you follow one-directional arrows that take you through the zoo on a self-guided tour, with lots of animals to see along the way.  

  • Certain animal habitats will have adjusted viewing in place to keep all the animals safe. Physical distancing will be in place in animal viewing areas.

  • Physical distancing will be supported with directional paw prints and refreshed white arrows safely distanced 3 metres apart throughout the park to keep households safely apart from each other.

  • As of June 10th, our indoor animal habitats and buildings are open, including Penguin Plunge, Rainforest, Savannah, and ENMAX Conservatory (with the exception of Cequel Energy Lodge and Panda Passage). We look forward to welcoming you back to these special spaces.

  • Washrooms will be open, with increased cleaning protocols in place, at the North Gift Shop (near Penguins), Jihad Shibley Rocky Mountain Aviary (located in the Canadian Wilds), Rainforest building (located at the north side of the building), Kinsman Playground, Kitamba Café, Camel Junction (near camels across from ENMAX Conservatory), ENMAX Conservatory, and Tiger's Den. Washrooms are not accessible at the North Gate entrance, as well as in the Karsten Discovery Centre or Cequel Energy Lodge as these buildings remain closed.

  • Wagon, wheelchair, and power chair rentals are available. See the FAQ section below for more information.

  • Food & beverage services and outdoor picnic seating is available. If you're hungry, visit Kitamba Café, Dairy Bar or Safari Snacks (previously known as Tribal Treats) to grab some hot food or a snack. In addition, Grazers will be opening for limited capacity dine-in and patio service as of June 11, 2021. See the FAQ section below for current hours of operation. Please note that Kitamba Café offers limited capacity indoor seating at this time. Additional seating is available on the patio and the many outdoor picnic tables throughout the zoo grounds. Debit or credit are the preferred methods of payment at this time, however cash is accepted. 

  • The North Gift Shop is open, located near Penguin Plunge at the North Entrance. Bamboo-tique (previously known as Panda Market gift shop) is also open, located near Panda Passage. Both locations have reduced capacity in compliance with the most recent public health directives. In addition, debit or credit are preferred but cash is accepted.

  • The Jihad Shibley Rocky Mountain Aviary in Canadian Wilds is open. Please make sure to read the enter/exit signs and stay on the one-way path to ensure a safe visit to the aviary for yourself and other visitors. The aviary will be in need of intermittent closing to give the birds extra space during nesting season. Thank you for your understanding as we ensure the welfare of our avian residents. 

  • Hand sanitization stations are available for your use at the entrance to indoor buildings and play spaces.

  • Security, First Aid and limited Lost & Found services are open. See the FAQ section below for more information on Lost & Found services.

The following will be unavailable until further notice as we support a safe experience for all:

  • Some indoor animal buildings, including: Cequel Energy Lodge and Panda Passage due to construction projects.

  • Some indoor facilities, including: Karsten Discovery Centre; Tigers Den Gift Shop, Penguin Café, and Panda Parlor. The following washroom locations are also closed: Karsten Discovery Centre and Cequel Energy Lodge.

  • Outdoor: Dinny's Green, Dino Dig and Panda Park.

  • Water fountains are closed throughout the zoo (vending machines are available).

  • Wildlife Carousel.

  • The West Gate remains closed.

  • What do I do if I already have a non-timed ticket or need to access a discount?

    Hotel ticket holders, complimentary ticket holders, individuals/groups who bought advanced tickets, and Frontline Essential Workers who received a ticket through their employer do not require an advance timed ticket; please follow the signage directions on your arrival at our North Gate.

    All other discount options can not be accessed online in advance. Please bring your voucher or discount card with you on the date of your visit and approach a Guest Relations Representative at Alberta Plaza for assistance, including: 

    • Airmiles ticket holders

    • AMA members

    • BOOM members

    • Calgary Attractions coupon holders

    • Calgary Recreation Fee Assistance Program/Zooshare

  • Do children under 3 years of age also need a ticket?

    No, children under 3 do not need a timed ticket.

  • Once I enter the zoo grounds, am I limited in how long I can spend on zoo grounds?

    No. You’re welcome to enjoy Zooventure for as long as you like! The time on your ticket controls the time you enter the zoo so that we can ensure a safe traffic flow and experience for everyone.  

  • What if I am running late?

    Reduced capacity restrictions, along with staggered entry times, are in place to ensure that we are moving visitors through the entry gate and into the zoo quickly to avoid crowing. To support these enhanced public safety measures, we ask that you do your best to arrive on time so that you can enter the zoo during your 30 minute timed ticket window. However, if you are running late you will still be granted access so long as you arrive within a reasonable time of your original booking. Please note that you may not be able to enter immediately and you will be expected to join the entry queue. We appreciate your understanding.

  • How do members pre-book reserved time slots for Zooventure?
    • Members must arrive at a pre-booked reserved time slot to ensure capacity is not exceeded. Members will be able to reserve a timed ticket online in advance of arrival by logging into your membership account. Children under 3 will not need to reserve an online timed ticket.

    • Member Only Hour will take place daily from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The final time slot for entry daily is 3:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., and no entry will be allowed after this time.

    • General admission online tickets and membership reservations are limited each day.

    • Members may reserve a time slot for themselves and up to as many guests allotted with their membership level.

    • Members will be able to add paid tickets to their reservation slot for non-members joining their visit.

    • Members will need their photo ID, membership card and reservation confirmation (printed or on phone) to check in.

  • Can I purchase tickets at the North gate?

    No. There is no onsite ticket purchasing available or permitted at this time.

  • Can I park and enter at the West gate?

    No. The West gate will remain closed.

  • What if I buy a ticket and discover I'm unable to attend at the date/time I selected?

    Members: Reservations must be cancelled in advance of your visit if you’re unable to make your booked time slot by emailing: [email protected]. Frequent no shows are being monitored and will be contacted.

    Public: Reservations may be rescheduled up to 7 days from the date of initially booked timed ticket. Advance notice is required. Email [email protected] for assistance.

  • Will I have to wait to get inside the Calgary Zoo?

    The Calgary Zoo will limit any unnecessary contact or crowding by capping guest admissions daily. Online timed tickets are required before you visit. Tickets will not be sold onsite. Helpful physical distancing decals and directional signage are in place throughout the zoo to help guide you along your Zooventure..

  • Can I leave the zoo and come back in?

    Due to our time ticketing system, visitors will be required to leave the zoo immediately after visitation to eliminate congestion on the property or in the parking lot. Once you exit the zoo, you can not re-enter the same day without a new timed ticket.

  • What should I bring with me?
    • Mask - Face coverings are strongly recommended everywhere at the zoo, but mandatory for everyone 2 years and older indoors (washrooms included) in accordance with City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020. Be sure to bring yours with you when you visit, and put them on and remove them safely. Expect to require one to enter all Calgary Zoo buildings.

    • Water - Vending and bottled water is available for purchase, but water fountains will be closed.

    • Stroller (if you need one) – Wagon rentals are also available from the North Gift Shop, by Penguin Plunge.

    • Comfortable shoes.

  • Where can I park by bicycle upon arrival?

    Bicycle racks are available for use at the North Entrance.

  • Where are face coverings mandatory?

    Face coverings are strongly recommended everywhere at the zoo, but mandatory for everyone 2 years and older indoors in accordance with City of Calgary Bylaw 26M2020. Be sure to bring yours with you when you visit, and put them on and remove them safely.

    Medical masks, cloth material or face shields that cover the chin, mouth and nose are acceptable.

    The current location & operating hours for daily food and beverage services is as follows:

    • Kitamba Café: open daily, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

    • Kitamba Java: open daily, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    • Dairy Bar: open weekends only (Saturday & Sunday), 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    • Safari Snacks (previously known as Tribal Treats): open weekends only (Saturday & Sunday), 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    • Camel Canteen (previously known as Tusk n' Grill): open weekends only (Saturday & Sunday), from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    • Watering Hole: open weekends only (Saturday & Sunday), from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    • Grazers: open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (service ends at 4:30 p.m.)

    The North Gift Shop, located near Penguin Plunge at the North Entrance, is open daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

    The Bamboo-tique (previously known as Panda Market), located near Panda Passage in Eurasia, is open Saturday & Sunday from 10:00 a.m.. - 4:00 p.m.*

    Both locations have reduced capacity in compliance with the most recent public health directives. *Hours are subject to weather and other conditions and may change without notice.

    The Penguin Cafe (located inside the North Gift Shop), Tigers Conservation Den, and Trading Post are currently closed.

    Debit or credit are the preferred methods of payment at this time, however cash is accepted.

  • Are wagon, wheelchair and/or powerchair rentals available?

    Wagon Rentals

    Wagon rentals are available at the North Gift Shop, located by Penguin Plunge, for a rental fee of $10. Keep your receipt and return your wagon before 4:45 p.m. to get $2 back. Wagons are proudly sponsored by Servus Credit Union.

    Wheelchair and Power Chair Rentals

    Wheelchairs are available at the North Gift Shop for a rental fee of $20. This cost includes a $10 refundable deposit and GST. A limited number of power chairs are also available, for a rental fee of $25.

    Please note that all rental equipment has a limited supply and will be rented out on a first come first served basis. Reservations are not taken, nor is there a waiting list available throughout the day.

  • Is the Lost & Found operational?

    Due to current health and safety measures, Lost & Found services are only available for certain items , including: electronics, wallets, bank cards and credit cards. Unfortunately, we are not be able to offer Lost & Found services for cloth items at this time. Thank you for your understanding. 

  • Is the Calgary Zoo still a one-way directional flow throughout the park?

    Yes, as of March 26, 2021 the Calgary Zoo returned to a one-way directional flow throughout the park. We remain committed to staying aligned with Alberta Health Services' directive to ensure zoo visits and experiences are safe and fun for all. We ask all visitors to continue to practice safe physical distancing, to wash your paws often, and to only congregate with your household.

  • Has Panda Passage opened? Can I see the Komodo dragons?

    Not yet. Panda Passage will be undergoing some changes before it’s open to the public. Keep your eyes out for future updates!
