  1. Attention: Requirements for Entry, Early Closure & ZOOLIGHTS Exclusions

    Important Health & Safety Update

    Effective November 15, 2021, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo will require all visitors 12 years of age and older to provide proof of one of the following before being permitted entry:

    • Alberta government-issued QR code (paper or digital) proving COVID-19 double vaccination (with the second dose received two (2) weeks or more prior to date of attendance);
      • Valid identification that matches the vaccine record is required for adults 18 years and over.
      • First Nation, out-of-province and Canadian Armed Forces vaccine records are accepted proofs of vaccination, as is the ArriveCan app and valid international travel identity document.
    • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken within the previous 72 hours prior to entrance (either PCR or Rapid Test); or
    • Valid proof of medical exemption.

    Those who are unable to show proof of one of the items listed above will be denied entry. This applies to all visitors aged 12 years and older.

    A friendly reminder that mask wear is required for ages 2+ inside all animal buildings, washrooms, retail and food spaces.


    Early Grounds Closure - November 19, 2021 - January 2, 2022
     

    New this year, we will be closing the zoo between day admission and ZOOLIGHTS.

    From November 19, 2021 - January 2, 2022, the following is in effect:

    • The last Daily Admission entry to the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo will be at 2:30 p.m.
    • The last Member entry will be at 3:00 p.m.
    • Our Security teams will clear zoo grounds at 4:30 p.m.

    All day admission visitors, including Members, will be asked to depart the zoo grounds at this time while our teams prepare for the festive night ahead. Our gates will reopen nightly at 5:00 p.m. when ZOOLIGHTS begins.

    We look forward to warmly welcoming visitors, young and young at heart, to experience the 25th anniversary of Calgary’s favourite holiday tradition – ZOOLIGHTS, presented by Olympia Trust Company.


    Temporary Closure Notifications

    • African Rainforest Aviary: Please note the African Rainforest Aviary will be closed on Thursday, December 2nd, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM while the habitat undergoes maintenance. 

    We appreciate your patience as we make the zoo the best it can be for the animals we love and care for! 


    ZOOLIGHTS Exclusions

    A friendly reminder that ZOOLIGHTS. presented by Olympia Trust Company, is closed the the public on the following dates:

    • November 28: Private event 
    • November 30: Private event 
    • December 3: Private event 
    • December 25: the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is closed

    In addition, the following dates are 'special event' evenings and require a separate admission ticket*:

    • November 23: Adults Only Night (18+) 
    • December 31: Zoo Year's Eve (Family-friendly)


    *Please note that regular ZOOLIGHTS admission tickets, zoo passes or complimentary tickets will not be accepted for admission to ZOOLIGHTS on November 23 and December 31. Visit our ZOOLIGHTS: Special Nights page for more information.

    Important Health & Safety Update

    As of September 20, 2021, the Calgary Zoo requires all visitors 12 years of age and older to provide proof of one of the following before being permitted entry:

    • Government-issued proof of COVID-19 double vaccination (between September 20 – October 25, proof of a single dose will be accepted if given two or more weeks prior to attendance);
    • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken within the previous 72 hours (either PCR or Rapid Test); or
    • Documentation of a medical exemption.

    Visitors will also be required to show their government-issued ID. Those who are unable to show proof of one of the items listed above will be denied entry. This applies to all visitors aged 12 years and older.

    Temporary Closure Notifications

    • Humboldt penguins: please note the Humboldts will not be viewable on Tuesday, October 19 while their outdoor habitat undergoes maintenance.

    Early Closure Notification

    The Calgary Zoo will be closing at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 for a private employee and volunteer celebration. Last entry for members and day admission ticket holders will be at 12:00 p.m. with the zoo grounds being cleared by 1:00 p.m.

    • Playground: In addition, please note the Brawn Family Foundation Bugtopia will be closed to the public on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 for major playground maintenance. The play space will reopen on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. Thank you for your understanding! 

    • Snow Leopard Habitat: Please note the snow leopards will not be viewable on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, while we replace the viewing glass panels in their habitat. We appreciate your patience as we make the zoo the best it can be for the animals we love and care for!

    • Outdoor Penguin Habitat: Please note the Humboldt penguins will not be viewable on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 and Wednesday, September 22, 2021 while the outdoor habitat undergoes maintenance.

  6. Attention: The Canadian Wilds section is closing early on Monday, September 13, 2021

    Please note the Canadian Wilds will be closing early Monday, September 13th for a private function. Last entry will be at 3:30 p.m. with the section closing at 4:15 p.m. Thank you for your understanding.

    A friendly reminder that mask wear is required for all visitors aged 2+ inside all Calgary Zoo buildings (including animal habitats, indoor dining, washrooms, and retail shops) in accordance with the provincial and AHS guidelines.

  7. Attention: The Calgary Zoo is closing early on Friday, August 27, 2021

    Please note the Calgary Zoo will be closing at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 27th in order to prepare for the Wild About Art experience.

    Last entry on this day will be at 3:00 p.m. Grounds will be cleared by 4:00 p.m. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, August 28th, 2021. 

    We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your support as we continue to bring exceptional evening experiences to the Calgary Zoo! 

  8. We're open! Come visit us for a WILD summer adventure!

    The Calgary Zoo is open for daily zoo visits! Here's what you can expect on your next visit:

    • Timed Tickets are no longer required. Day admission tickets can be purchased online or in person at the gate. Members must show their membership card at the gate for entry.

    • Visitors are no longer required to wear masks in buildings or indoor animal habits at the Calgary Zoo. 

    • We have returned to a two-way flow on park.

    We look forward to warmly welcoming our visitors and members for a WILD summer at the Calgary Zoo!

  9. Please note: the Canadian Wilds will be closed on July 6 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

    Important Update: The Canadian Wilds will be closed on Tuesday, July 6th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for a private function. Thank you for your understanding.

    The Calgary Zoo is open for daily zoo visits! As part of the provincial re-opening plan in Stage 3, here's what you can expect on your next visit:

    • Visitors will no longer be required to purchase a timed ticket for their visit starting July 1. Day admission tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. Members can show their card at the gate for immediate entry.

    • Mask wear will remain mandatory in all indoor habitats and buildings as part of the Civic Bylaw. We also want to remind visitors that physical distancing is everyone's responsibility at the Calgary Zoo.

    • We will be returning to a two-way flow on park.
