Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.
Bite-Sized
In Wild Canada, we said goodbye to a beloved old friend: ‘Callie,’ our senior female Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. Our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team made the compassionate decision to euthanize her due to age-related degenerative changes that were affecting her quality of life.
Callie was born in 2006 and joined us in 2007. At 18 years old, she was the eldest in our herd, far surpassing the median life expectancy for her species.
Her legacy lives on through her offspring, including current herd members ‘Cheyenne’ and ‘Bill Williams,’ contributing to the preservation of this iconic Canadian species. Callie will be missed by her care team and the herd – Cheyenne, Bill Williams, ‘June’, ‘Cash’, ‘Amelia’, and ‘Camille’.
