Calgary's Wildest Party With A Purpose

ZooLaLa (Adults only, 18+)

Join us for our first ever ZooLaLa! Experience a luxurious night out - at the wildest place in the city - to celebrate the important conservation work that the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo carries out locally and globally. At ZooLaLa, every guest is a VIP and will get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes workings of the zoo plus live entertainment, food samplings, and libations! This is an 18+ event and everyone will be ID’d at the gate. 

Here’s what to expect for this amazing night out: 

WHEN:  Saturday, September 17, 2022 

TIME: 5:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.  

Tier 1: Burrowing owl – first entry is at 5:30 p.m. 
Tier 2: Vancouver Island marmot – first entry is at 5:00 p.m. 
Tier 3: Whooping crane – first entry is at 4:30 p.m.

WHAT:  During this premier night out, the zoo’s familiar landscape will be transformed by the sounds of live music and the scents of delicious cuisine. Expect your usual favorite dinner-by-the-bite samples, creative cocktails and live entertainment while wandering through the zoo. This event will also host a Zoonique online auction beginning in September and in person and closing during the ZooLaLa event. The auction is accessible to everyone online and all guests at the event. Proceeds from the Zoonique online auction will go directly to the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo's - Whooping Crane Recovery Program. We encourage you to wear your ‘zoo chic’ attire! Early Bird Prices (until September 4, 2022):

  • Tier 1: Burrowing owl: $99.00 + GST 
  • Tier 2: Vancouver Island marmot: $149.00 + GST 
  • Tier 3: Whooping crane: $199.00 + GST 

Regular Prices (after September 4, 2022):

  • Tier 1: Burrowing owl: $109 + GST 
  • Tier 2: Vancouver Island marmot: $159.00 + GST
  • Tier 3: Whooping crane: $209.00 + GST

    Tier 3: Whooping crane admission includes:  

    • Admission to the zoo starting at 4:30 p.m  

    • Premium parking in the West Parking lot (parking fees NOT included) 

    • A chef-inspired three course dinner in Grazers with wine parings and President’s welcome 

    • Access to an exclusive animal experience 

    • Access to a behind-the-scenes workings of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo 

    • Access to the tent with tapas and sparkling wine 

    • Access to all libations and food tasting stations located throughout the zoo grounds 

    • Live entertainment from local musicians and performers 

    • Conservation education 

    • Access to the Zoonique online auction 

    • A take home ZooLaLa lanyard and collectors’ flair. 


     Animal Experiences

    Tier 3: Whooping cranes: join us for an exclusive behind-the-scenes animal experience with our caravan of camels or our tower of giraffes.    

     Tier 2: Vancouver Island marmots: enjoy a private visit with our penguin colony in Penguin Plunge and get all your penguin questions answered by the Animal Care, Health & Welfare team members dedicated to their health and well-being.    

    All Tiers  

    5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.: prepare to be surprised and delighted by our iconic Canadian residents, as you join us for feeding time in the Canadian Wilds zone after the zoo closes.   

    6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.: ever wondered where the hippopotamus sleep? What does a giraffe’s bedroom look like?  How do we give giraffes a pedicure? Our Animal Care, Health & Welfare (ACHW) team will show you all this and more during the “behind-the-scenes” Savannah building tour. 

    Learn everything you ever wanted to know and more about our white-handed gibbon brothers, Malayan tapir and Komodo dragon brothers in the Gateway to Asia building.

    Join our ACHW team as they give our western lowland gorilla troop a before bed scatterfeed snack.    

    You won’t make it very far during ZooLaLa without seeing something you haven’t seen during a daytime visit. But don’t dawdle, all animal buildings close at 8:00 p.m.  The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo team will be talking about the animals we love and care for and doing some special enrichment feeding.  Your attendance at ZooLaLa directly supports the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s critical conservation work locally and globally. Zoonique Online Auction

Calgary’s wildest party also has a purpose – to support wildlife conservation. A bid for any of our incredible auction items is a bid for animal health and welfare. Proceeds from the Zoonique online and in-person silent auction will directly support the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo’s - Whooping Crane Recovery Program proudly sponsored by Conoco Phillips Canada. The Zoonique auction will go live in September and will be added to this page then.


ZooLaLa 50/50 Raffle

Last year’s online 50/50 raffle was a great success with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and one lucky ticket holder sharing over $7,000. Don’t forget to get your tickets – available online and/or at ZooLaLa. The raffle winner will be drawn on September 17, 2022 and the winner will be contacted by September 19, 2022. Check back on this page in August for the raffle ticket link.


What to Wear? 

The attire for this evening out is “zoo chic”. We encourage you to wear fun, animal-inspired, creative business casual or even black-tie attire.  

  • Remember to dress for the weather – this event will be both indoors and outdoors across the zoo – there is plenty of shelter and areas to move  this event indoors if necessary. 

  • Be sure to wear comfortable shoes. The zoo is a big place and you will be walking a large part of it for this event.

FAQs

  • What else do I need to know?
    • This event is accessible – however NOT all back of house areas are – if you need to rent a wheelchair or powerchair – please contact Guest Relations at 403-232-9300 at least 24 hours before the event. These services will not be open during the event without a pre-booking. 

    • The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo will close to the public at 4:00 p.m. for this event and the grounds will be cleared. This special event ticket allows you entry only at your appointed time and you can stay on grounds until 10:00 p.m. You will need to keep it with you at all times, either on your phone or as a print out. 

    • We kindly ask that you do not bring outside food and beverages to this event. This event includes food and drink, however, a cash bar will be available.   

    • Debit or credit are the preferred methods of payment at this time, however, cash is accepted. 

    • The online Zoonique auction and raffle will only take credit cards. 

  • What do I do upon arrival?
    • Tier 1 and Tier 2:  park and enter the zoo through our  North parking lot and entrance

    • Pay for your parking at the parking terminal before entering the event 

    • Arrive and enter during your timed ticket entry time ONLY. 

    • Have fun – this is an entertaining evening intended to help you have fun learning about wildlife conservation, while experiencing the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo in a new and exciting way - at night!
