Last entry to the zoo will be 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, to accommodate set up for our Cocktails for Conservation (18+) event, presented by Jayman BUILT. Last entry to Destination Africa will be 3:30 p.m., with the zoo being cleared by 4:30 p.m. Thank you for your understanding.
PETRONAS Gateway to Asia Malayan Tapir Viewing: ‘Sempurna’ and her female calf ‘Nyawa’ have daily access to either the main indoor habitat or the outdoor habitat from 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. They’ll also have access to their behind-the-scenes space and may choose to spend time there, so viewing isn’t always guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.
Special Events
From immersive mystery nights and conservation dinners to before-hours animal encounters and family breakfasts, the Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo is offering a variety of unique experiences throughout August for guests of all ages. This month, guests can explore the recently opened Asian Highlands with the debut of Locked Zoo: Havoc in the Highlands and Red Panda Breakfast featuring one of the zoo’s most beloved species.
August 1, 15, 29 | Family-friendly
This family-friendly morning event offers early access to the zoo’s Wild Canada zone, including before-hours viewing of polar bears Yellé and Siku. Guests will hear from Conservation Education staff and volunteers about polar bear biology, conservation challenges, and current research before enjoying a buffet breakfast.
August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, and additional dates in September | Family-friendly
Experience a private viewing of zoo residents Linus and Anshu in Asian Highlands’ red panda habitat after enjoying a pancake breakfast featuring fresh fruit and other buffet favourites. The event highlights red panda biology, unique adaptations, and conservation efforts supporting this endangered species.
August 7 | 18+
Sip, savour, and explore the zoo during an evening celebrating conservation through local food and beverage vendors, live music, games, and opportunities to connect with wildlife.
August 21 | 18+
The Wilder Institute’s Conservation & Science team shines a spotlight on collaborative conservation efforts with an evening of storytelling and a farm-to-table dinner. Guests will learn about programs working to protect burrowing owls and whooping cranes.
August 22 | 18+
An after-hours immersive adventure set in the highlands of Bhutan, where guests investigate a mysterious wildlife relay station that has gone silent following a strange final broadcast. Participants will follow clues to uncover the cause of unusual changes in the behaviour of snow leopards, Sichuan takin, and red pandas. Dinner boxes are included with tickets.

Enjoy a brunch experience featuring a Belgian waffle bar, cooked-to-order omelettes, a chocolate fountain, and more before exploring the zoo.
