THE CALGARY ZOO IS “BUSINESS AS USUAL” FOR VISITORS WITH PROOF OF COVID-19 IMMUNIZATION

Posted on September 17

Calgary, AB – Effective Monday, September 20th, the Calgary Zoo will require all visitors aged 12 years and older to show proof of one of the following before they will be granted access to the zoo:

  • Government-issued proof of COVID-19 double vaccination (between September 20 – October 25, proof of a single dose will be accepted as long as the dose was given two (2) or more weeks prior to attendance);
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken within the previous 72 hours prior to entrance (either PCR or Rapid Test); or
  • Documentation of a medical exemption.

This includes day admissions, evening events, special events, weddings, barbecues and corporate events.

“Since the province announced enhanced public safety measures earlier this week, we have worked to adjust our operations to align to the new enhanced public safety measures” said Calgary Zoo President & CEO, Dr. Clément Lanthier. “The health and safety of the animals we love and care for at our facilities, our employees, our volunteers, our donors, our members and our visitors remains our top priority and we must respond to the public health crisis.”

When visitors arrive for a zoo visit or event, Guest Relations or Security team members will ask each guest 12 years of age and older to present one of the following:

  • Government-issued proof of COVID-19 double vaccination (between September 20 – October 25, proof of a single dose will be accepted as long as the dose was given two (2) or more weeks prior to attendance);
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken within the previous 72 hours prior to entrance (either PCR or Rapid Test); or
  • Documentation of a medical exemption.

Once provided, visitors will be granted access to the Calgary Zoo. If unable to provide any of the above, visitors will not be able to visit the Calgary Zoo until they are able to provide government-issued proof of COVID-19 double vaccination (between September 20 – October 25, proof of a single dose will be accepted as long as the dose was given two (2) or more weeks prior to attendance), proof of a negative COVID-19 test, taken within the previous 72 hours prior to entrance (either PCR or Rapid Test), or documentation of a medical exemption.

Mask wear is required for all visitors aged 2+ inside all Calgary Zoo buildings (including animal habitats, indoor dining, washrooms, and retail shops). The Calgary Zoo recognizes medical mask wear exemptions.
