The Calgary Zoo Returns to a Fully Outdoor Adventure for Daily Zoo Visits and ZOOLIGHTS

Calgary, AB - December 4 UPDATE – The Calgary Zoo will be returning to a fully outdoor adventure for daily zoo visits and ZOOLIGHTS effective Saturday, December 5th.

“We have worked closely with Alberta Health Services to create a safe, gathering place for house holds to gather and enjoy a cherished family tradition,” said Greg Royer Chief Operating Officer of the Calgary Zoo. “We believe moving to a fully outdoor operation for the near future will provide the safest environment for staff, volunteers and visitors. “

Here’s what visitors can expect from ZOOLIGHTS:

  • Advanced timed tickets are required for visitors 3+ years of age. Visitors with discounts must come to the North gates to purchase tickets ie) Calgary Recreation Fee Assistance/ZooShare, BOOM members, and Military members are invited to attend the North gates with their ID to receive their discount.
  • ZOOLIGHTS visitor admissions are capped at 25% of capacity.
  • Masks are strongly recommended throughout the zoo, but mandatory indoors (including washrooms).
  • Santa will be greeting children from his sleigh beside the Discovery Centre.
  • Food can be purchased at Kitamba Café (seating is extremely limited, one-way flow, masks required), Tusk N Grill and Tribal Treats. Note: We remain a cashless facility.
  • Retail items can be purchased at the North Gift Shop and Panda Market.
  • Starting at Journey to Wechiau and continuing around the island there is a recommended one-way flow on the island for the best light viewing experience. 
  • Skating rink is open (one direction skating, masks mandatory).
  • Outdoor firepits are open and manned at all times, with capacity limits in place.
  • Enchanted Gardens indoor experience in the ENMAX Conservatory is closed until further notice.

Here’s what visitors can expect from daytime zoo visits:

  • Masks are strongly recommended throughout the zoo, but mandatory indoors (including washrooms).
  • Food can be purchased at Kitamba Café. Seating is extremely limited, masks are required indoors and a one-way flow is in place. Note: We remain a cashless facility.
  • Retail items can be purchased at the North Gift Shop and Panda Market.
  • Playgrounds are open!
  • Indoor animal habitats and buildings are closed until further notice including: Penguin Plunge, Savannah building, Rainforest building, Cequel Energy Lodge, Panda Passage and the ENMAX Conservatory. Some species have additional fencing in place to create additional space between our animals and visitors.
