Calgary, AB - The Calgary Zoo will take you back in time to when dinosaurs reigned supreme with announcement of its newest exhibit, “Dinosaurs: Awakened”, opening to the public this Friday, May 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. is Member Only Hour).
“Visitors will marvel at the size of these magnificent life-like creatures that move, sound, and exhibit behaviours of these giants of the past.” said Alison Archambault, Calgary Zoo’s Director of Brand & Engagement. “This exhibit will inspire visitors to think and engage with dinosaurs in a new way, challenging old notions of what they may have looked like!”
Based on the success of the past “Dinosaurs Alive” exhibit held in 2010 and 2015, the Calgary Zoo is introducing 26 new realistic animatronic dinosaurs (across 17 species) within Prehistoric Park, from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, covering the zoo’s regions including: Canada, Asia, Africa, South America, and Antarctica.
The exhibit, designed to educate, as well as entertain, encourages visitors to go on an immersive journey through the newly designed Prehistoric Park to experience what it may have been like to roam the Earth with the dinosaurs, while inspiring action to prevent the loss of endangered species today - a key component of the vital conservation work the Calgary Zoo does both locally and globally.
“Dinosaurs: Awakened” will be viewable within Prehistoric Park until October 31, 2021 and is included in the price of daily admission. Tickets can be purchased directly from the Calgary Zoo website at https://www.calgaryzoo.com/Zooventure.
The Calgary Zoo is currently an 'outdoor-only' experience. Indoor animal habitats & buildings are currently closed, with the exception of retail shops and washrooms, in accordance with provincial health and safety measures. Timed tickets are required to be purchased online in advance. Face coverings are strongly recommended everywhere at the zoo, but mandatory for everyone 2 years and older while indoors (washrooms and retail shops). The Calgary Zoo takes the responsibility of providing a safe place for people to visit during these challenging times very seriously and is committed to remaining aligned with AHS directives.
