We have flipping fantastic news – our oldest gentoo penguin, ‘Lochlan’, is 30 today!
This is an exciting hatchday for our colony and an incredible testament to the work done by our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team. In the wild, gentoo penguins live 15 to 20 years, and longer in human care. Now in his golden years, we treasure each day that we have with this special penguin. Lochlan’s dedicated care team looks after him as he navigates age-related aches and pains, but not even arthritis can slow this bird down!
Lochlan has sired several successful offspring at the zoo with his longtime mate, ‘Giselle’. We’re thrilled to have been part of contributing to the genetic diversity of this beautiful species.
Join us in wishing Lochlan a very happy hatchday!
