Calgary, AB – Meet Maple - the Calgary Zoo’s sweetest arrival. The five-month old female moose arrived at the zoo in May as a rescue animal through Alberta Fish and Wildlife. She is now settling into her new habitat at the northern entrance to Canadian Wilds.
“After a tough start to her life, we are delighted to welcome Maple to the zoo,” says Colleen Baird, General Curator, Calgary Zoo. “When she first arrived, she weighed only 17.5 kg and has grown to now more than 100 kg. Not all rescue stories have a positive outcome, and we are pleased to be able to offer Maple the care and attention she needs.”
Moose are the largest member of the deer family and are found throughout Alberta. Their population in the province is listed as secure and has seen an increase in recent years.
