Unleash Your Wilder Side: The Zoo Brings Summer Event Fun to New Highs This July!

27 JUNE 2023 (Calgary, AB) - As temperatures heat up, so does the fun visitors can expect this month at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo. From adult-only Wild After Hours offerings to family-friendly dining and Canada Day celebrations, there’s something for everyone to explore and enjoy!

Canada D-Eh – July 1

Moose, beavers and maple, oh my! Celebrate our nation's birthday in red-and-white style with family and friends at the zoo. Indulge in exclusive Canadian cuisine, visit our Biofact Exploration Stations, proudly sponsored by ConocoPhillips Canada, to learn about iconic Canadian wildlife, represent the maple leaf with a temporary tattoo and pose for a photo-op with a larger-than-life beaver!

The best part? All these jubilant celebrations come at no extra cost. Simply purchase a daytime or membership admission to the park and you're all set to enjoy the festivities. So, mark your calendars and join us as we commemorate our great nation's birthday in style!

Gorilla Breakfast – Tickets are selling fast, visit the website for available dates/seatings*

Bring your troop to meet our troop as our popular gorilla breakfasts return for the summer! Enjoy a scrumptious pancake breakfast with a side of gorilla facts from our Conservation Education staff and our volunteers, followed by an exclusive visit to see our troop.

This is an opportunity to learn more about western lowland gorillas, what makes them so wonderful, why they are endangered and of course, the 'who’s who' in our troop. Beat the crowds and hear all the up-to-date gorilla news at this event for all ages.

These events often sell out – and with a new gorilla infant to visit, they’re sure to draw crowds again!

High Tea at the Zoo – Tickets are selling fast, visit the website for available dates/seatings*

Don’t miss this unforgettable feast for the senses! High Tea at the Zoo is the perfect way to elevate your zoo visit as you enjoy scrumptious scones, finger sandwiches and snacks and a selection of thoughtfully curated tasty loose-leaf tea. Situated in the ENMAX Conservatory against a backdrop of breathtaking blooms, guests will be greeted with photo-worthy tablescapes featuring beautiful vintage china and stunning garden vistas. Your ticket includes admission to the zoo, so before you sit down to enjoy your afternoon delights, be sure to take a walk around the grounds!

With limited indoor and outdoor seating available, this intimate affair is sure to sell out quickly!

WildScapes Gardener’s Tour – July 6 & 20*

Adult-only (18+)

Calling green thumbs of all levels! Discover the secrets of successful gardening in Calgary's often challenging climate zones. This one-hour journey will venture through the Dorothy Harvie Gardens while visitors of all mobilities (including those using wheel and powerchairs) will learn tips and tricks from our experienced horticulture team along the way.

July 6: “In Vivid Colour – making the most of annuals in your garden”.

July 20: “A Breath of Fresh Air with Hardy Trees”

Can’t make it to this tour? Not to worry! We’re hosting garden tours, each with a different topic, throughout the summer. These intimate tours are limited to 20 people – secure your spot before the sun starts to set!

Wild After Hours: Corks for Conservation – July 28*

Adult-only (18+)

Experience an enchanting evening at the zoo, indulging in a wine-derful affair! Guests will be emersed in the captivating sights of majestic animals and vibrant gardens, creating an idyllic setting for a memorable night out with friends or a romantic date. Enhancing this already delightful atmosphere, an extensive array of Canadian and international wine samples awaits, serving as the ideal accompaniment for a leisurely stroll through the park.

WildScapes – daily until mid-September

New to the zoo this summer is WildScapes, the city’s most unique garden experience. Visitors will be met by colourful structures handcrafted into different animals using plants. Unlike traditional topiaries, WildScapes feature intricate designs made from different flowers, succulents and more.

The living exhibit of ten larger-than-life planted sculptures brings some of the world’s most awe-inspiring animals to life in colourful new ways. Included with daytime and membership admissions to the zoo, WildScapes provides the perfect backdrop for the creation of new memories with friends and family while enjoying the summertime weather.

Sunday Safari Brunch – Sundays until November 12*

Brunch lovers rejoice! Join us each Sunday for an egg-cellent brunch experience held in the heart of Destination Africa. Guests will enjoy both gourmet and comfort breakfast foods, including a free-flowing chocolate fountain with fresh fruit, eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon, a Belgian waffle bar, cooked-to-order omelettes and much, much more!
