African Rainforest Building: Habitat maintenance and mulch work will impact animal viewing in the Africain Rainforest Building:
PETRONAS Gateway to Asia Malayan Tapir Viewing: ‘Sempurna’ and her female calf ‘Nyawa’ have daily access to either the main indoor habitat or the outdoor habitat from 9:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. They’ll also have access to their behind-the-scenes space and may choose to spend time there, so viewing isn’t always guaranteed. Thank you for your understanding.
Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.

July brings plenty to explore at the Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo, including the grand opening of Asian Highlands, the first phase of the Imagine Asia transformation. Guests can also celebrate Canada Day, take advantage of Stampede savings, and enjoy a variety of family-friendly and adults-only experiences throughout the month.
July 1 | Family-friendly
Celebrate Canada Day at the zoo with animal enrichment activities throughout the Wild Canada zone, highlighting the wildlife and wild places that make Canada unique. Guests can also enjoy a selection of classic Canadian treats available across the park. All activities are included with regular admission.
July 2–19
Guests can receive 15% off regular zoo admission by presenting a valid 2026 Calgary Stampede admission ticket at the zoo’s front gate. The limited-time Stampede Show & Save promotion is available throughout the Calgary Stampede, from July 2 to 19.

This family-friendly morning event offers early access to the zoo’s Wild Canada zone, including before-hours viewing of polar bears ‘Yellé’’ and ‘Siku’. Guests can hear from Conservation Education staff and volunteers about polar bear biology, conservation challenges, and current research, before enjoying a buffet breakfast.

Asian Highlands, the first phase of the Imagine Asia transformation, opens to the public on Wednesday, July 15. Guests can explore the new mountain-inspired habitat and encounter snow leopards, red pandas, and Sichuan takin, a new species at the zoo. Entry to Asian Highlands will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Explore the world of lemurs after hours with exclusive viewing of three species in the Land of Lemurs immersive habitat during this adults-only experience. Guests will enjoy a four-course meal at Safari Lodge and hear from animal care staff through stories, photos, and videos highlighting lemur behaviour, care, and conservation.

Indulge in Calgary’s ultimate zoo-nique brunch. Guests can enjoy a free-flowing chocolate fountain, Belgian waffle bar, cooked-to-order omelettes, eggs Benedict, Canadian bacon, and more — then head out to explore the zoo with a full belly.
