Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.
Bite-Sized
Get ready to test your eagle eyes – we’re now home to a golden eagle!
Meet Goldie, a female golden eagle who is joining us from the Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey in Strathcona, Alberta. In 2000, Goldie was found injured in the Hinton area and transferred to the facility where she underwent a four-hour surgery to repair her wing. Although Goldie survived, she was unable to regain full use of her wing, leaving her permanently flightless.
While her exact age is unknown, we believe Goldie is about 26 years old. During her time at the rescue facility, Goldie was a much-loved ambassador who raised awareness of and appreciation for this incredible species. We’re proud to continue this incredible legacy in her new home – you can find Goldie in the former wild boar habitat.
Stop by to welcome Goldie to our zoo family this weekend!
