Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.
Bite-Sized
We are otterly excited to share that our 7-year-old North American river otter, ‘Kate’, has been observed breeding! While we’re hopeful for a successful pregnancy, the species is known for delayed implantation and sensitivity to external factors makes it difficult to predict a timeline with confidence. For now, we wait but we’re hopeful that we’ll welcome new pups to our bevy sometime this spring!
To support Kate during this special time, our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team has moved her to the east habitat, where she has access to a maternity den and pool. This area is specially designed to provide privacy, space, and comfort to expecting otter moms during this sensitive and exciting period.
Our dedicated Animal Care, Health & Welfare team is closely monitoring Kate and will continue to provide her with exceptional care and support throughout this journey. Stay tuned for more news and pup-dates!
