Animal Viewing Impacts

Black Bears: Our black bears will be intermittently off-view between Tuesday, October 6, and Friday, October 23, as shingles are replaced on the viewing areas. Thank you for your understanding.

Mulch Work: Habitats around the zoo will be receiving fresh mulch on Thursday, October 8. Our lemurs, lions, red river hogs, and wood bison will be temporarily off-view as mulch is added to their habitats. Thank you for your understanding.

West Gate Closure

Due to significant construction activities in and around Imagine Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.

Farewell to ‘Addis’

December 02, 2023 | 1 minute read

We are saddened to share that on December 2, 2023, our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team made the compassionate decision to euthanize our nearly 19-year-old rough-scaled lizard, ’Addis’. Addis came to the Wilder Institute’s Calgary Zoo in 2015 and has been a muchloved African Savannah resident ever since. We will share additional information, including the health challenges that led to this decision once a necropsy is completed. Please keep his care team in your thoughts during this difficult time.
