Bite-Sized

Farewell to ‘Manuka’

May 14, 2026 | 2 minute read
We’ve got some bear-y important updates to share.
This weekend, Saturday and Sunday, will be the last opportunity to see our blonde black bear ‘Manuka’ before she heads to her new home. As of next week, she will be spending her remaining time with us behind the scenes, with access to both indoor and outdoor spaces. As always, animal welfare and wellbeing guide these decisions, and this adjustment allows our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team to focus on the next phase of Manuka’s training and care ahead of her move.
But wait, there’s more. An exciting new chapter is about to begin in Wild Canada.
Our male grizzly bear cubs, ‘Turner’ (darker colour) and ‘Fitz’ (lighter colour), will soon be making their much-anticipated public debut. Since being orphaned in the wild and joining our care in September last year, they’ve been growing, bonding, exploring, and building species-typical behaviours. Now, at just over a year old, they’re ready for their next big milestone.
These young bears are smart, curious, and full of energy, and they’re a joy to watch as they explore their surroundings. We can’t wait for you to meet them. We don’t have an exact date to share just yet, but you can look forward to seeing the cubs on habitat sometime next week. Stay tuned for more updates!
