Jihad Shibley Rocky Mountain Aviary: The Jihad Shibley Rocky Mountain Aviary is temporarily closed Tuesday, September 16th.

African Rainforest Building: The Rainforest Building will open at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 17th, to give our western lowland gorilla troop the space, comfort, and privacy they need as they meet their newest member, ‘Johari’.

PETRONAS Gateway to Asia Malayan Tapir Viewing: ‘Sempurna’ and her calf are not currently viewable and will remain behind-the-scenes for the next several weeks to enjoy quiet bonding time. Stay tuned to our social channels for the announcement of their public debut!

PETRONAS Gateway to Asia: Last entry to PETRONAS Gateway to Asia will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 20th and Saturday, September 27th, to accommodate setup for Wild After Hours: Malayan Tapirs (18+).

Animal Viewing Impacts:

Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.

Species Viewable: Bactrian camels, Komodo dragons, white-handed gibbons, Malayan tapirs, red-crowned cranes, Turkmenian markhors, Amur tigers, wild boar, and Pallas’s cats. Plus, our Dalmatian pelicans can be found in their temporary home at Land of Lemurs!
Species Not Viewable: Snow leopards and red pandas have been relocated during construction, but don’t worry – these beloved species will be back in 2026.

West Gate Closure

Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.

Introducing ‘Chip’ and ‘Dip’

Exciting news! We are thrilled to welcome two female greater rheas, two-year-old ‘Chip’ (white colouring) and six-year-old ‘Dip’ (gray colouring), from Parc Safari to their new home.

Chip and Dip have been getting settled into their new home in the South America zone. Our Animal Care, Health & Welfare team will be rotating access to the courtyard for the rheas and alpacas until the rheas are comfortable in their new surroundings and are ready to share a mixed species habitat.

In other rhea news, we also bid a fond farewell to our male greater rhea, ‘Tatu’, as he moved on to new adventures!
