We’re ready to start monkeying around – our Japanese macaque ‘Shawna’ is turning 26 today!
Did you know that Japanese macaques have cheek pouches for food storage? These pouches extend down both sides of the neck. As a genus of monkey, Japanese macaques have opposable thumbs, and can be busy peeling fruit or moving through their territory on all four limbs while carrying food in their cheek pouches!
