On July 30, we said goodbye to ‘Chari’, a three-month-old spur-winged lapwing chick who hatched here in April and had mild congenital leg deformities since birth.
After being diagnosed with a fracture in his right leg, the ACHW team provided splinting, monitoring, and treatment. Unfortunately, he developed a fracture in his other leg at the same location within a week, and despite every effort, recovery was no longer possible with two fractured legs. The compassionate decision was made to proceed with euthanasia. A necropsy confirmed the fractures with microscopic examination pending to assess bone structure.
Though his time was short, Chari represented the promise of new life, and his loss is deeply felt.
