Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.
Bite-Sized
Big news is on the prowl—an iconic Canadian species has joined our zoo family!
We are thrilled to introduce 10-year-old female Canada lynx ‘Kaya’. She has been spending time behind the scenes at our Animal Health Centre, getting to know her dedicated care team and is settling in well. Kaya won’t be the only lynx joining us – we look forward to welcoming a male later this year!
Kaya won’t be viewable until later this spring. Her future home will be nestled next to our black bears in Wild Canada. Currently, our female snow leopard ‘Leika’ is calling this habitat her temporary home. When Leika moves out, our teams will get to work, making slight habitat modifications to get it ready for its new residents.
