Exploration Asia
The Exploration Asia Redevelopment project is officially underway! While there are some viewing impacts in the area, you can still visit many of your favourite species.
Due to significant construction activities in and around Exploration Asia, the zoo’s West Gate will remain closed for the 2025 season and is expected to remain closed until at least 2028/2029. This necessary step supports the safe movement of visitors while we undertake exciting improvements to animal habitats and visitor experiences.
Bite-Sized
We’re grrr-inning with excitement to announce the arrival of a new set of stripes. On November 19, 11-year-old male Amur tiger, ‘Vasili’ arrived safely in Calgary – a testament to the hard work done by his care team at the Toronto Zoo to prepare him for the journey.
Though he came to us from Toronto, this is actually a homecoming! Vasili was born here in 2012 and is the brother of our current male, ‘Samkha’.
Vasili will spend at least 30 days in quarantine before being introduced to the tiger habitat where Samkha and female tiger, ‘Sarma’, reside. Though you won’t be able to view him for some time, join us in wishing Vasili a warm welcome back to the zoo family!
